Ross (Grandparent), had this to say:
“Yesterday I had the pleasure to watch two of my Grand-Daughters participate in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. They loved it.
I must say that the organisation on the day was one of the very best I have ever seen at any event. The spirit of the day was absolutely fantastic and the manner that the volunteers and the broadcasters on the day were continually encouraging our future citizens and promoting the ability for them to participate was superb.
However one moment surpassed even this and it occurred in the swim leg of the 10 year old girls. A couple of relays before one of our Grand-Daughters swam, a young girl was struggling to finish her swim. In fact she was a long way from the finish. At no time was she in danger and the support crew were very conscious and attentive of her.
This is where I start to well up. The life guards and the people in the pool gave her tremendous support and encouragement by coaxing her whilst they were around her, whether they were in or out of the pool. They even stopped the relays behind her which allowed this young girl to finish in her own time. The whole crowd of spectators (and it was packed), the other children and the support crew all clapped her achievement. Tingling stuff!
This achievement was not only hers, it was yours and ours.
It is a classic example why we should continue to be proud Australians. This Country is and will always be a great place to live, when we see actions like this.
Again, allow me to thank you and to congratulate you on a wonderful event. We will all be back next year.”
